Call Before you Dig!

farm-721113_1280

According to the Iowa One Call website, when underground facilities such as gas pipelines, fiber optic cable and water lines are disrupted by farming excavations, so are the lives of rural farming communities.

Iowa law requires all farmers and ranchers to notify Iowa One Call at least 48 hours prior (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays) to all terracing and waterway projects, new fence post installations, tiling, subsoiling, ripping or plowing below fifteen (15) inches in depth. Normal farming operations, such as plowing, cultivating, planting and harvesting less than fifteen (15) inches in depth do not require prior notification to Iowa One Call. In Missouri, it is required to submit a locate request at least 48 hours prior (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays) whenever farmers and ranchers are working at a depth greater than 16 inches.

By properly using the Iowa One Call or Missouri One Call system, farmers and ranchers can avoid liability issues, damage to farmland and equipment as well as protect lives and property.
