October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a month dedicated to bringing awareness to the importance of online safety.
Cybersecurity Awareness Month was first observed in October 2004 by the National Cyber Security Alliance and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to educate Americans about online safety. Initial awareness efforts centered on updating anti-virus software twice a year to mirror similar reminders such as changing batteries in smoke alarms during daylight saving time. Since then, the month has grown in awareness and participation, encouraging strong, nationwide cybersecurity.
