A Message From Our CEO

Dear GRM Networks Customer,

In my February message, I hinted that GRM Networks was exploring opportunities to support our local gaming communities. This month I am excited to announce that GRM Networks has partnered with Fiber Gaming Network (FGN) to offer our customers free access to weekly gaming events including tournaments, live streams and community gaming nights.

FGN is a nationwide gaming platform that connects fiber internet users across the country. Through our partnership, customers will have access to weekly online gaming events featuring the popular games Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Minecraft, Fortnite, Rocket League and others. Our partnership will also provide resources to schools in our service areas helping them to grow or develop their esports programs.

Esports is a valuable addition to a school’s curriculum, providing an alternative extracurricular activity to traditional sports and clubs. Participants learn the value of teamwork and how to win and lose with dignity. When students help teammates improve their gaming techniques, they develop leadership and communication skills. Learning to set up equipment to stream and broadcast esports matches gives students valuable time management and technical skills. Other benefits of esports include building communities and exploring STEM concepts. All of these skill sets can translate into college scholarships and future career paths.

The gaming industry has exploded and is expected to keep growing both in revenue and popularity. According to the trendspotting platform Exploding Topics, the gaming industry is currently valued at $282 billion worldwide with expectations to exceed $363 billion by 2027. Gaming’s appeal spans all segments of our market. Per Truelist, there are more than 3 billion gamers worldwide with people between the ages of 18 and 34 making up 38 percent of gamers globally. Exploding Topics notes that about 74 percent of parents in the United States say they play video games with their children on a weekly basis and according to an article in the July 2023 edition of Fortune magazine, nearly one-third of people over the age of 65 said they play video games regularly.

GRM Networks is thrilled to be a part of this evolving industry. We look forward to the exciting opportunities and possibilities esports offers our area schools and youth.
