GRM Networks Awards Six Scholarships to Area High School Seniors
GRM Networks places great importance on the opportunity for higher education for rural youth, offering up to six scholarships each year through the GRM Networks Scholarship Program. GRM Networks has awarded a combined total of $8,000 in scholarships to six area high school students as part of the cooperative’s 2023 scholarship program. The recipients are:
- Harley Clutter, Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, Missouri – $2,000
- Hunter Ackley, South Harrison High School, Bethany, Missouri – $1,500
- Aidan Rains, Grundy County RV High School, Galt, Missouri – $1,500
- Cassidy Davidson, South Harrison High School, Bethany, Missouri – $1,000
- Adam Young, Central Decatur High School, Leon, Iowa – $1,000
- Grayson McFall, Ridgeway High School, Ridgeway, Missouri – $1,000
GRM Networks founded the scholarship program in 2016 to support area high school students who wish to further their education. Eligible applicants must be a graduating high school senior with at least a C grade point average, and must have a parent or legal guardian who is an active member of GRM Networks. Scholarship recipients will receive their award upon completion of their first college semester and proof of maintaining a 2.0 grade point average.
Numerous Scholarships Available Through GRM Networks
GRM Networks places great importance on the opportunity for higher education for rural youth, offering six scholarships annually through the GRM Networks Scholarship Program.
GRM Networks founded the Scholarship Program in 2016 to support area high school students who wish to further their education. Eligible applicants must be a graduating high school senior with at least a C grade point average, and must have a parent or legal guardian who is an active member of GRM Networks. Scholarship recipients will receive their award upon completion of their first college semester (within one year of high school graduation) and proof of maintaining a 2.0 grade point average during that first college semester.
GRM Networks also partners with the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS), the philanthropic arm of NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association, to provide the opportunity for numerous additional scholarships to local students. The GRM Networks and FRS Scholarships are separate programs and students must submit two separate applications to be considered for both opportunities.
There are two additional scholarship opportunities that are limited to Iowa residents. The Iowa Communications Alliance (ICA) offers scholarships to children of ICA member company employees. Aureon offers scholarship opportunities for students whose parent or legal guardian are GRM Networks or SCC Networks customers in Iowa.

GRM Networks Scholarship Program
Applicants must:
- Be a graduating high school senior
- Be accepted by an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, trade school or other post-secondary institution
- Have at least a C grade point average (GPA)
- Have a parent or legal guardian who is an active GRM Networks member in good standing at the application deadline
Immediate family members of GRM Networks board members or employees are not eligible to apply for the local GRM Networks Scholarship. Immediate family members are: parents, siblings, children, spouse, grandchildren or the spouse’s same immediate family members.
GRM Networks will award up to 6 scholarships:
- One $2,000 scholarship
- Two $1,500 scholarships
- Three $1,000 scholarships
All applications will be reviewed and winners will be selected by a committee of GRM Networks board members. Scholarships will be awarded on a one-time basis and are not renewable.
Winners will forfeit their scholarship if an unofficial transcript showing a minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average, or “C” average is not received by GRM Networks within 60 days of the end of their first semester of post high school education. The unofficial transcript can be emailed to adavison@corp.grm.net. Scholarships will be paid directly to the student in the form of a check after the first semester transcript is received.
Scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender or disability.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.

FRS Scholarship Program
GRM Networks partners with NTCA’s Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) to offer an annual college scholarship program to help further higher education among rural youth. Students that are family members of GRM Networks board members and employees are eligible for FRS scholarships.
FRS awards several one-time $2,500 scholarships to students from rural America for their first year of college, university, or vocational-technical school. GRM Networks sponsors the local applicants for the FRS Scholarships, and pays $500 of the award to any local winners. The parent or legal guardian of the student must be a member of GRM Networks.

FRS also offers the James L. Bass Legal Scholarship, recognizing Mr. Bass’s impact to the rural telcom industry and his passion for the legal profession. This scholarship is for students entering their first year of law school, who have an interest in rural communities. The application deadline was February 8, 2023. Iowa Communications Alliance Scholarships
The Iowa Communications Alliance (ICA) is offering two scholarships to a high school senior whose parent or guardian is currently employed by an ICA active member company.

Aureon Scholarship Program
GRM Networks and SCC Networks are proud to partner with Aureon to make the Aureon Scholarship Program available to students in the Iowa GRM Networks and SCC Networks service area. To be eligible, students must be pursuing a STEM-related course of study (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) and live in a home with active phone, internet, or TV from an Iowa Independent Telecommunications Company (such as GRM Networks or SCC Networks).
The Aureon Scholarship Program will award over $10,000 in funds, with individual scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000.
