FRS/GRM YOUTH TOUR TO WASHINGTON D.C.
The Foundation for Rural Service sponsors an annual Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. each year. GRM Networks is proud to offer this once in a lifetime opportunity to high school juniors who are age 16 or 17 at the time of the tour and whose parents or legal guardians are members of the cooperative.
The FRS Youth Tour is an all-expense paid trip that brings together students representing rural telecommunication providers from across the United States to learn more about broadband applications in rural communities. Attendees tour famous historical sites and monuments and meet with representatives from the Federal Communications Commission as well as staff and members of Congress from the attendee’s congressional district. Students also attend sessions focused on developing leadership skills.
The 2020 FRS Youth Tour was to be held June 6-10, 2020. Applicants were interviewed by a panel of board members at the GRM Networks office in Princeton, MO in March. This year’s winners are: Jaden Lester of Browning, MO, pictured below left, daughter of Shayla Gerlt and Jeremiah Lester; and Abby Webb of Humphreys, MO, pictured below right, daughter of Michael and Jessica Webb.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the 2020 Youth Tour. Since the Youth Tour could not take place, the GRM Networks Board of Directors has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the Youth Tour winners.
